The Technical Sales Engineer (TSE) is the subject matter expert in the assigned region for the Telematics Product Portfolio and related technologies. The PM will work closely with the Customer Business Units (sales) and facilitate a two-way conduit for the flow of information to ensure that customers understand Client’s Telematics portfolio and the company’s strengths in the domain.  The TSE will collect and assimilate customer and market intelligence to support the product generation process working closely with Product Management to ensure that the company’s products reflect innovative approaches to meet customer needs. The TSE will also work closely with the various CBUs to help identify, qualify and engage with new customer opportunities in both existing and new accounts. In the course of program pursuits, the TSE will act as the subject matter expert in the RFQ response process.

Job Responsibilities:

CLIENT is at the forefront of developing new in-vehicle infotainment and connectivity systems that let drivers and passengers are entertained, connected, efficient, safe and productive while in the car.  As such, our systems are leading the industry with exciting innovations in multimedia, connectivity, car-centric applications, navigation, advanced safety, and multi-modal interfaces.  This position will be an evangelist for Client’s connected car technologies, working closely with our OEM partners, internal and customer engineering teams, and select 3rd parties to define next generation features and services.

  • The Technical Sales Engineer (TSE) will work closely with the North American and LATAM Customer Business Units (Sales) as the Subject Matter Expert in Telematics technologies.
  • Establish a position of expertise that is recognized in the organization and across the industry. Utilize this strength to engage and present at industry forums.
  • Working with the assigned CBU counterparts, open new customer opportunities including RFQ pursuits in legacy and new customer accounts.
  • Identify and qualify opportunities to assemble joint Proofs of Concept  (PoC) projects with customers that result in future opportunities. Work with the CBU, Product Management, Engineering and Customer Program Management to win and execute new PoC’s.
  • The will engage directly with customer constituents (research, engineering, purchasing, senior decision makers) to articulate Client’s expertise in the telematics sector. In so doing, information will be collected that supplement the knowledge base that will be used in planning the Telematics product and services portfolio.
  • As the subject matter expert, work closely with the CBU and RFQ teams to support the creation of proposals in response to RFIs, RFQ’s and RFPs for telematics solutions.
  • Work closely with customer engineering teams to understand requirements, influence the customers’ technical direction and to build confidence in Client’s products and product delivery capabilities.
  • Communicate customer technical requirements within the Client Product Management and Engineering organizations and interface with multiple groups within to ensure customers’ product expectations are being met.
  • Work with the Marketing and Product Management teams to create collateral that can be utilized in a f lead generation programs (trade shows, workshops, videos, white papers, etc). Assemble such programs to facilitate account penetration and an active network.
  • Create and maintain a dashboard of OEM programs in the assigned region that tracks current and upcoming telematics programs, SWOTS, decision criteria, competitive environment and other critical account information which can help guide product planning and can facilitate sales success.
  • Provide monthly program status updates via the standard template.  Represent account progress internally to senior management during program, quality and operations reviews.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical or Computer or Communications Systems Engineering or related field OR BS Business + Equivalent technical experience and 8 years of experience in a technical sales role with responsibility for advanced technology products. A Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering would be preferred.
  • A self-starter and strong team player who can successfully navigate the organization to reach the agree-upon business goal.
  • A balance of customer-focused commercial background and a broad technical background with general knowledge of cellular and network technology, standards, mobile devices,  WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Infotainment systems, inter vehicle communications (buses), advanced safety, cloud-based services, software architectures and automotive-grade products and processes.
  • Experience working in the technology industry or automotive industry. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in an automotive tier-1 or tier-2 supplier of electronic components.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have an existing customer network among the North American and LATAM automaker communities that could be tapped to develop customer organizational insight.
  • Ability to communicate advanced and complex concepts and ideas persuasively and concisely to all levels of the business. Must be able to articulate vision and influence decision-making outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and the customer.
  • Must be an active listener astute in the technology who can probe for customer needs, identify gaps in the product line and ideate on areas of differentiation. Must be able to distill ideas from discussions with customers, suppliers and industry participants that help the Product Management teams in their roadmap synthesis.
  • Must be a Technology Evangelist for the company and the business unit. In this regard, the incumbent will create and present compelling presentations utilizing original content and spin that can excite the customers.
