DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Sales Manager will be responsible for sales of battery energy storage systems (ESS) throughout North America, with an emphasis on both grid-scale systems and behind the meter (BTM) ESS at commercial & industrial (C&I). To be successful, this will require: a full understanding of energy storage systems; knowledge of existing and evolving legislation to identify most compelling markets for ESS; and a commitment to establishing new and developing existing customer accounts.

The individual must be able to identify clients’ needs, generate solutions and direct all phases of proposal preparation, sales negotiation and project implementation. This requires the individual to have a balanced blend of technical and commercial capabilities and experience, be capable of establishing and nurturing effective relationships with customers’ influencers and decision makers, while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, international business.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be comfortable working within a relatively small North American regional organization with specialized technical and commercial support from corporate associates. Primary responsibilities of the Sales Manager include:

  • An understanding of energy storage systems, their major components, interfaces, and typical applications
  • Develop an understanding of competing energy storage technologies, and use this knowledge to inform clients of our competitive advantages and value propositions.
  • Market analysis, including legislative background, major customers, and competitor activities. Results will contribute to regional marketing and sales strategy development.
  • In conjunction with corporate sales management, develop specific sales plans including target accounts, order intake and sales revenue forecasts.
  • Creation and development of highly effective relationships with channel partners, customers and system integrators.
  • Arrange customer meetings as required to execute the sales plan.
  • Create and present technical and commercial business proposals to successfully meet client’s needs, working closely with overseas corporate associates.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of proposals to customers in the region.
  • Facilitate all aspects of technical support to our clients during pre- and post-contract award discussions and subsequent field deployments, including management of training for partners’ personnel in ESS installation & field support.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in a capital equipment sales role or equivalent
  • Proven record of sales success and achieving revenue growth, preferably in the energy industry. Experience in sales of energy storage systems or related capital equipment and/or services is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, and presentation
  • A Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, in a technical discipline (Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred)

  • Comfortable working beyond normal office hours as required to meet customer expectations; an ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory (up to 50%).
