Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Senior Engineering Manager, the Systems Engineer (SE) will perform application engineering and provide technical support for sales of lithium-ion energy storage systems (ESS) to customers throughout North America, from grid-scale to residential systems. The individual is expected to bring strong know-how in thermal topics but is expected to contribute in a wider area. The position is an individual contributor role, working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, global business.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be comfortable working within the company’s regional organization with specialized technical support from corporate associates. Primary responsibilities of the SE include but are not limited to:

  • Perform optimal system sizing accounting for battery performance and aging, thermal simulations and HVAC sizing.
  • Technical lead with assigned equipment partners/suppliers, such as enclosure system providers. Provide technical expertise in thermal topics.
  • Technical communications with customers during all phases of the proposal: pre- and post-bid. This includes understanding project requirements and objectives, generation of technical proposals, answering bid clarification requests and contract negotiations. The individual will engage with key specialist personnel in overseas to achieve these tasks.
  • Lead responsibility for coordinating technical interactions with nominated key accounts.
  • Development of in-country expertise on codes & standards related to new product development programs.
  • Develop an understanding of competitors’ products and technologies, in support of the Company’s market intelligence team.
  • Support other team members in thermal topics.


  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, in a technical discipline (Chemical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in a technical role.
  • Experience and know-how in thermal models and simulations, and thermal systems (e.g. HVAC). Combined experience and know-how should be a minimum of 5 years.
  • Knowledge of energy storage technologies, preferably lithium ion batteries, including an understanding of their characteristics and differentiators / advantages, would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in the energy industry and of engaging with electric utilities, project developers and technical consultants would be highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, and presentation.
