Position Summary

Technical Program Manager manages cross-functional teams to introduce new products for OEM automotive customers.

Description

  • Manage 4-8 program teams, requiring both applications and international development engineering.
  • Define tasks to be performed by cross-functional team in developing systems. Use task list to create a work breakdown structure. Use work breakdown structure to establish program schedule.
  • Follow corporate product development (or applications) process. Ensure the compliance of team members.
  • Ensure prompt decision-making is executed by promoting consensus decisions, intervening when consensus decision-making fails, and making unilateral decisions in the case of a deadlock.
  • Prefer background in Automotive programs for Electronics, Electrical, Electromechanical or Plastics.
  • Approve requirements and technical solutions for meeting requirements for all development products.
  • Establish and manage program budget.
  • Work with Sales, Supplier Engineering, and Design Engineering to set system cost target. Meet system cost target.
  • Set team goals for timeliness, customer issues, and quality.
  • Lead cross functional team of 3 to 8 people to meet goals.
  • Interact with all internal functions: design engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, marketing, and sales.
  • Negotiate resource allocations from functional managers. When a resource conflict occurs, negotiate a solution with functional managers and other program managers.
  • Serve as lead program interface with customer.
  • Identify program issues as early as possible and drive resolution at the team level. If resolutions requires management intervention, escalate to appropriate management personnel with proposed alternatives.
  • Review selected suppliers and quotes, and participate in supplier reviews/selection as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and oversee ordering of prototype and production tooling.
  • Audit task completion. Report major deviations from plan to appropriate management.
  • Provide monthly reports in requested format.
  • Willingness to travel 15% of the time including international.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in electrical engineering
  • REQUIRED Experience in automotive program management, sales, quality, design, engineering management, or process engineering.
  • REQUIRED Experience with full life cycle of automotive program from RFQ stage to program start to launch to post launc (Cradle to Grave) for a Tier supplier
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience with programs for Ford or FCA or GM or Toyota or Harley Davidson preferred.
  • Prefer some knowledge of the Automotive Electronics or Electrical or Electromechanical or Plastic components (Not a must)
  • Required experience
    • 5+ years experience for Mid level Program Manager OR
    • 8+ years for Senior level Program Manager OR
    • 10 + years for Superviser Manager level Program Manager (Supervisory experience required)
  • Some knowledge of APQP, PLM, Problem solving tools (8D, 5S, Fishbone, DMAIC or similar)
