Job Description

 

Position Summary:

The Product Manager (PM) is responsible for lifecycle management of the assigned category including collection and assimilation of market and customer intelligence, roadmap planning, product planning, business case synthesis, development and launch of the Telematics products.  The PM will interface with counterparts in the Customer Business Units to gain customer insight. The PM will also work closely with the product generation organizations including Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Customer Program Management. The SPM will be the domain expert in the assigned categories and will create collateral from this expertise to facilitate the commercial success of the business. As the Subject Matter Expert, the PM will also support customer pursuits and the proposal creation process. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

CLIENT is at the forefront of developing new in-vehicle infotainment and connectivity systems that let drivers and passengers are entertained, connected, efficient, safe and productive while in the car.  As such, our systems are leading the industry with exciting innovations in multimedia, connectivity, car-centric applications, navigation, advanced safety, and multi-modal interfaces.  This position will be at the center of the development, working closely with our OEM partners, internal and customer engineering teams, and select 3rd parties to define next generation features and services.

  • Build a Strategic Product Plan that considers a broad range of market intelligence including customer, competitive, industry intelligence and a full understanding of the technology roadmap.
  • Based upon Market Intelligence, synthesize a product roadmap (hardware, software, services) with innovative unique differentiators that will resonate with customer needs and position Client as a leader in the field of telematics.
  • Work closely with customer engineering teams to understand requirements, influence the technical direction and to build confidence in Client’s products and product delivery capabilities.
  • Communicate customer technical requirements within the organization and interface with multiple groups within to ensure customers’ product expectations are being met.
  • Work across the global product generation function to influence and drive acceptance of product concepts deliver products to market.
  • Make decisions regarding hardware features, performance and pricing.
  • Establish a position of expertise that is recognized in the organization and across the industry.
  • Manage program risk proactively, identify program risks and coordinate meetings with the PM and multi discipline functions to address risks before they become issues.
  • Assemble and maintain processes, metrics and dashboards to track and measure product success (Manage all product delivery elements)
  • Provide monthly program status updates via the standard template.  Represent the products internally to senior management during program, quality and operations reviews.
  • Lead the product quality adherence to follow standard Client processes and maintain product related documentation.
  • Primary escalation point for both internal and external project software communications for the dedicated customer project.
  • 50% travel as required.

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or related field and 10 years of experience in a product management role with responsibility for advanced technology products. A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering would be preferred.
  • Broad technical background with general knowledge of cellular and network technology, smart phones, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Infotainment systems, vehicle bus, advanced safety, cloud-based services, and automotive requirements. Specific experience in the assigned technology area.
  • Proven technical leadership with experience working in the technology industry or automotive industry. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in an automotive tier-1 or tier-2 supplier of electronic components.
  • Previous experience in working with hardware, software, systems and cloud-based services and content.
  • A self-starter and strong team player who can successfully navigate the organization to reach the agree-upon business goal.
  • Must be able to articulate vision and influence decision making outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and the customer.
  • Must be able to define a strong data-backed business case to support product decisions.
  • Ability to write cohesive peer-reviewed white papers and make compelling technical presentations to technical and business audiences. 
  • Fluent in English. Proficiency in German, Chinese or Korean would be a plus.
  • Extraordinary oral and written communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to influence across cross-functional teams and to work effectively with business and technology leaders.
  • Experience managing external and internal vendors/partners.
  • Exceptional reputation as an innovator based on having created forward-looking research, projects, and award winning publications.
  • Ability to communicate advanced and complex concepts and ideas persuasively and concisely to all levels of the business.
